Last week, I skipped posting a new blog post. I had gotten sick, and I was much more preoccupied with resting and recovering.
Aside from that, I’ve decided that this week I want to talk about a few things that I’ve been up to, especially since I’ve recovered.
The nice weather has finally come out, which is always welcome. It’s filled me with an inspiration to start doing more, dedicating more time to my hobbies. This has been playing out in two ways simultaneously.
First, I recently purchased a new computer to run as my home server. It hosts my Minecraft server as well as all of my larger files & backups. I’ve been spending some time developing a web console in order to interact with it when I’m not at home, to perform specific automations, or to just check in and make sure it and its services are still running.
I’m using Tailscale in order to accomplish this. It’s just me and my partner on this network, but it allows us to VPN all of our devices together from everywhere, and privately, which is incredibly useful.
This is fun, but it will take a lot more time. Once it’s in a state to be shown off, I’d love to make another blogpost detailing and explaining it and how it was accomplished, alongside making some of the source code public and open source.
The second thing I’m working on is another fanfic. I’ve been really behind on this actually... This work, titled “The Reflection of Stars on Water”, is three chapters long. I started a rough draft of the first chapter back in February, but it had a lot of issues, and I didn’t like how the fic was planning out. It didn’t have the tension and the drama I was looking for.
I’ve just started rewriting that chapter, changing a number of things that will overall make it a very different story. But at least it should end up making it a lot more interesting.
When the first chapter is done, I’ll send it to be beta read by some of my friends. At this point, I’d like to have already started writing some of chapter two. Once any changes to chapter one are made, I’ll post it. Because I won’t have all the chapters together at once, it will be almost guaranteed to be a long time between chapters.
